Some of us have daily routines that are conducive to listening to podcasts - long commutes, lengthy stints at the gym.
But just as summer is traditionally the time we are meant to pick up a
book to read, summer travels make this a particularly good time of year to fill up your digital-media-player-of-choice with audio from experts and innovators in the startup world.
Looking for entrepreneurial-oriented podcast? Here are some recommendations for podcasts that will inform and inspire.
- This Week in Startups:
Mahalo CEO Jason Calacanis hosts TWiST and discusses the latest tech
industry news, with a rotating slate of guest entrepreneurs and experts.
- Mixergy: Andrew Warner interviews a variety of successful entrepreneurs.
- Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders:
Stanford University's Thought Leader Lecture series takes place
during the academic year. Recent guests have included VC Marc
Andresseen and Pandora CTO Tom Conrad
- This Week in Venture Capital: VC Mark Suster hosts TWiVC and brings his expertise and analysis to the industry deals of the week.
- Startup Success Podcast: Hosts Bob Walsh and Patrick Foley discuss industry trends and give business and technical tips on starting a business
- Interviews with Innovators: The interviews conducted by author and software developer Jon Udell range from the technical to the social
- Technometria:
Phil Windley discusses programming and software development, open
source, identity, new media, enterprise computing, and many other topics
- Duke Entrepreneurship Education Series: The material from Duke's program are available and include titles like "Business Plans 101"
- Freakonomics:
This New York Times podcast, like the column and the book, is an
innovative look at economics and at "the hidden side of everything."
- This American Life:
This has nothing to do with startups or technology or business, you say. Perhaps. But host Ira Glass assembles a show that exemplifies storytelling mastery. And being able to craft a good story for your startup is crucial. Furthermore, as Glass noted in a recent interview
with Slate, many of the show's themes address questions of "wrongness" - how people make mistakes, learn and pivot. And the importance of this for entrepreneurs can never be underestimated.
That's only 10; there are many, many more great podcasts out there.
What are you listening to? Do you have any other recommendations?
